The American Highway Revisited - VC Torneden & Melinda Green Harvey
Created by VC Torneden and Melinda Green Harvey, The American Highway Revisited is an offshoot of their Route 66 based project, The Other Side. Due to the scale and subject matter of The Other Side project, both photographers find frequent burnout is a reoccurring issue. The best solution to date for both has been to find new ways of looking at the subject matter. Torneden, a printmaker as well as photographer, frequently works with her photos to create various styles of monotypes. Upon the suggestion of Green Harvey, the two of them began creating acrylic monotypes from the photos included in their project both to help cure burnout and as a means to shift the emphasis in the photos and revisit them from a different perspective.
In celebration of Route 66’s centennial in 2026, the artists are offering exhibits of the resulting monotype prints to galleries which have previously shown The Other Side. It is the hope of the artists that audiences familiar with the original project will be intrigued to see it in a completely different medium and style thus gaining a deeper knowledge of how artists can approach a subject many different ways. The exhibit also provides audiences an opportunity to see photos that may never be used in the other side project. After four years of documenting and tens of thousands of photos, both artists have many photos that for various reasons will never make the final cut of The Other Side project. However, some of those photos have proven to be uniquely suited to printmaking and have found their way into the Revisited project, proving that one project’s rejections may well become another project’s boon. With this in mind, the current interest in gel plate printing, and because gel plate monotypes work well for artists working in a large variety of mediums, the artists are happy to provide a workshop or class on gel plate work at the gallery during the run of the exhibit.

Other Side - ThruMyEyez
Other Side explores the space between struggle and possibility, where growth feels close but remains just out of reach. Through bold colors, distorted characters, and divided compositions, ThruMyEyez reflects a community pushing forward while facing constant barriers—both seen and unseen. These visual interruptions symbolize the systems, environments, and internal battles that block access to new opportunities and a better life. Yet within the tension lives resilience, as each figure continues to stretch toward something greater. This body of work captures that shared pursuit—the fight to break through limitations and finally reach the other side, where transformation, freedom, and hope begin.

¿De dónde eres? - Where are you from? - Sofia Arenas
“Where Are You From?” begins with a familiar question, one that rarely has a simple answer. As a Guatemalan-Peruvian artist and designer raised in Oklahoma City, Sofia Arenas reflects on how home is shaped across places, languages, and people. Through mixed media and recycled materials, she tells stories of where she comes from and how meaning takes form over time. Reflecting on how we come to understand where we’re from, and how we carry it within us.
Sofia Arenas (she/they) is a multidisciplinary artist and designer based in Oklahoma City, working across illustration, fiber art, and visual storytelling. Her work explores identity, culture, and belonging through tactile forms and thoughtful design. Proudly Guatemalan and Peruvian, her perspective is shaped by her upbringing in Oklahoma City and deep ties to the community.
Sofia creates original artwork, leads creative workshops, and collaborates with community organizations. She is involved in her family business, Arenas Sports Center, serves as a multidisciplinary designer for Visit Oklahoma City, and volunteers with Comité Guatemala Oklahoma, an organization dedicated to sharing Guatemalan history and culture across the state.
