"In my series of images, I wanted to showcase the variety of public seating in and around downtown Oklahoma City. My goal was to highlight and emphasize the benches and chairs seen in a bustling city and do so with no human interaction, something I typically do when I am photographing nature. My idea to photograph public seating stems from my interests in outdoor nature photography. In 2018, my family and I moved to Oklahoma after I had retired from the US Navy. I photographed the outdoors extensively while in the military to help me escape the rigors of my job. Being in nature helps to settle and center me, especially early in the mornings. This project is a way for me to return to those roots of waking up in the early morning to see the sunrise and photograph the outdoors before life becomes busy. It is within this serenity that I truly become recharged to confront the day ahead. My hope is to convey that feeling in these images; that the benches can become a source of inspiration for others to be a place to recharge before the day begins."
