The Underpass

“Highway underpasses have always fascinated me. Beneath the concrete structures, I see unexpected beauty, strong lines, repeating patterns, and the way they frame the landscape beyond. By adding embroidered French knot blossoms and greens over my photograph, I introduce a quiet intervention that contrasts with the concrete. The delicate stitching invites a second look, revealing beauty in an often overlooked place and creating a dialogue between the built environment and nature.”

Old Gas Station

“An abandoned gas station along Highway 77 has become a familiar landmark on my daily drives. Slowly being reclaimed by wild vines and large trees, it speaks to the quiet passage of time rather than abandonment. Early spring, when the trees are still bare, I imagine the redbuds blooming. The embroidered blossoms made with French knots extend nature’s presence beyond the photograph, creating a subtle intervention that blurs the boundary between documentation and imagination. The work invites a closer look at the beauty that emerges when the built environment is left to evolve alongside nature.”
