Umbrella Etiquette and Other Correspondences
This body of work reads like a series of visual letters — small, storm-soaked dispatches sent from the edge of memory, grief, and survival. Each portrait is a kind of correspondence: to the self, to ghosts both literal and emotional, to the moments we carry long after they’ve passed.
The series explores the atmospheric states of grief, memory, and identity through emotionally saturated figures caught mid-storm — not of nature, but of the psyche — where clouds form behind the eyes, tears drown crows, and umbrellas bloom like fragile shields. These mixed media works blend raw mark-making, gestural abstraction, and symbolic detail to render emotional landscapes as real and touchable as skin.
David Eric Morrison is an Oklahoma-based artist known for his expressive and raw figurative and portrait work. He uses a unique style combining primitive and formalistic elements to create emotional and layered pieces and personal narrative.
