Así Soy Yo, Print on Paseo, and Kathy Wrigley - Solo Exhibition: Scratchboard Art

Gallery I: Así Soy Yo (This is Who I Am) - Nathaly Ramos

Así Soy Yo is the debut solo exhibition of Mexican-American artist Nathaly Ramos. It is an unfiltered look into her mind, her culture, and her life. Through mixed media, Nathaly explores what it feels like to grow up between two worlds, to carry a heritage that is both beautiful and complex, and to finally say the things that were never easy to say out loud. This show is about identity, about womanhood, about processing pain and finding joy in the same breath. It is personal. It is honest. It is hers.

Ramos’ work includes both photography and painting. She is adept at conveying a compelling, unfiltered, often irreverent mood through the use of lighting, rich, saturated colors and specific imagery. The resulting compositions speak to her unique experiences.

Gallery 2: Print on Paseo - Annual Printmaking Exhibition

Print on Paseo is the Paseo Arts Association's annual juried printmaking exhibition. This exhibition strives to represent and spotlight the depth and diversity of printmakers and educate the public about the many different printmaking processes; relief printing, lithography, woodcuts, screenprinting and more!

The July Print on Paseo show features a variety of printmaking techniques and artistic styles, with subject matter and themes ranging from explorations of identity and memory, place and nature, activism and even dancing cowboy hot dogs! Many of these artworks share a common investigation of pattern, value and color, as well as the juxtaposition of positive and negative spaces. This juried show includes work that is both representational, more stylized and even surrealist.

The juror, Lynn Barnett Sparks, is the former owner/operator of Los Milagros Print Studio, an open-access studio, for 13 years, where she hosted several Master Printmakers who shared their vast experience with attendees, including the late Julia Ayers, the still-living Ron Pokrasso, and Dan Welden. She then moved to Florida, where she continued printing and showing in a gallery in Venice, Florida. After living and participating in the local art scene there for ten years, she returned to find a vital and growing printmaking scene, as well as a burgeoning art community.

Featured artists include: Ally Scherer, Ariana Weir-Temoshok, Aztrid Moan, Candacee White, Carley Laird, Cierra Roberts, Claudette Torneden, Elizabeth Richards, Fred Howell, Ismael Izaguirre, Jacob Kriech, Jason Zaloudik, Jennifer Hustis, Jessica Pirkle, Paige Nguyen, Patricia Salas, Rick Sinnett, Robin Stockton, Saray Suarez, Steve Loftis, and Wesley Kramer.

Gallery 3: Kathy Wrigley - Echoes of Creation | Scratchboard Art

Kathy Wrigley’s Echoes of Creation, a solo exhibition of Scratchboard Art is an intricate study of animal and plant life in a range of stages and forms, from owls to flowers to cheetahs. The scratchboard art technique renders these portraits delicate and exquisitely detailed in quality, and artist Wrigley imbues her subjects with personality and a playful charm by depicting them in unique backgrounds and poses and by adding brief narrative descriptions. Come visit this engaging exhibit today!

“This body of work is based around my viewpoint that all of creation is an echo of One voice. This series celebrates the spindly giraffe, furry babies, the breathtaking array of flowers and the myriad of flying creatures that echo nature’s renewal. I watch these echoes come into view when I scratch away the black of the scratchboard and I get to join the party of life’s grand beginnings just as God’s voice echoed into the nothing.” - Kathy Wrigley
