The March Show: Resilience - Artist Statements

Tony A. Tiger, Community Arbor: Mississippi Contemplation, Elm branches, photo etchings, ink, serigraph, wax, LED, artificial sinew, with Poplar wood base. $7,000

Community Arbor: Mississippi Contemplation takes a closer look at the arbor and its many uses in tribal community. The arbor is a place where community would gather for: protection from the elements, to work, teach, cook, religious (spiritual belief) practices and for social engagement. I have fond memories of family and tribal communities utilizing arbors in similar uses. My new body of art will include pieces inspired by my research of objects I have studied from my tribal heritage and cultures: the Sac and Fox, Muscogee and Seminole peoples of the Americas.
