The March Show: Resilience - Artist Statements
Roxxann Murphy, We’re the Reason God Made Oklahoma, Acrylic, $250
This piece was inspired by a photograph of a girl living in a shack in OKC in 1936 by Dorothea Lange.
The fierce but playful look on the girl’s face during such a difficult time in our history made me think of my own childhood in Oklahoma City and then my daughter’s upbringing living in Oklahoma now.
Oklahoma is our home but can feel inhospitable. With each generation comes new ideas and fresh attempts at making this place brighter and more colorful.
