The March Show: Resilience - Artist Statements
Autumn Savage, Is Karma A Bitch?, Mixed Media, $200
Created while reflecting on a C-section injury, this piece is about trying to not let the darkness and pain take over, but rather choosing to see the beauty beyond the pain. The black stones represent those who try to take advantage and cause pain to women in disadvantaged positions. Black mosaic stones are dispersed throughout with a shiny pink shell representing the woman's true essence taking her life back into her own hands. The distribution of jewelry is the pop of joy that grows from the choice to overcome. Multiple adhesives, shell, stone, and jewelry come together on an 8-ball, found object displayed on a three-pronged stand.
