This work is from the series Metamorphic Apertures. Inspired by the improvised photographs sourced from the artist's walks throughout nature, this series examines transitional states within the natural world as reflections of our own everchanging perceptions. The process of refining, altering, and laying out the dust embodies the concept of how our perceptions undergo a similar transformation, as well as the susceptibility of these perceptions to change within an active environment.
In "A Moment," the artist was inspired by a photograph of a monarch butterfly to explore its life cycle and surrounding environment. The radial symmetrical pattern symbolizes the cycle of reproduction and transformation which repeats with each new generation. If observing the lifespan of a single butterfly, the stages appear to be in stark contrast with one another, with the final stage appearing to be the final point of apotheosis. But as these stages are seen repeated throughout the generations, the impact of the individual stages gives way to a greater natural rhythm.
