Because jackfruits are so large, all the women of a household will usually sit together on the floor to peel and de-seed one. When I was young, I remember these jackfruit sessions being times when I could mime actions and speak broken Vietnamese with my grandma and non-English speaking aunts about cutting the fruit since it was such a gestural and physical process, and I felt bonded to them through a very Vietnamese-feeling activity, even while not speaking the same language.
