“Rotten Melon” is one of five pieces in my series “Exposing Nature’s Beauty,” which consists of large cyanotypes prints on fabric reflecting natural scenes from the environment. Each piece in the series only contains elements that are naturally occurring, and non-human made, such as plants, animals, and rocks. “Exposing Nature’s Beauty” aims to highlight the non-conventional beauties in nature; it expands beauty to more than sunset images and blooming flowers. “Rotten Melon” is one of the best examples of the unconventional beauty in nature, as a rotting fruit is not often the first thing that comes to mind when you hear “beauty.” The melon shows beautiful processes of nature: decaying, the life cycle, how insects and small animals might use the melon for nutrients. Overall, actively seeking out beauty in non conventional ways plays a huge role in my artistic process.
