The prairie is a landscape in which thoughts expand to fill the space. Growing up in Oklahoma, the prairie fills many of my earliest memories and is still one of the spaces in which I feel the most at home. This self portrait explores the dream-like quality of almost flying as one gazes out across the expanse. The subtitle of “tread lightly” speaks of the fragility of the space; much of the prairie ecosystem I spent my early days exploring has since been developed, and the native plants and wildlife turned to cement and lawns.
